Bienvenue Bistro Sablé: A New French Bistro Arrives in Islington

October 31, 2025

Bistro Sablé is the latest addition to the Noble Inns collection of pubs and restaurants which includes the award winning Pig & Butcher in Islington. Located at 63-69 Canonbury Rd, London N1 2DG and formerly known as The Smokehouse, Bistro Sablé opens on November 3rd and will be a welcome evolution for this charming neighbourhood spot where classic French bistro cooking and an unfussy ambience is soon to be the order of the day.

A 65 seater restaurant spread across two areas, on arrival guests are immediately greeted into the bar space where a handful of tables and chairs, and bar stools create a convivial space in which to enjoy an aperitif.

A lateral space, the dining area is demarcated courtesy of simple white tablecloths framed with bistro style chairs and intermixed with some banquette seating too. The open kitchen lines the back of the restaurant area creating a welcome and intimate space.

Multiple trips to the revered flea markets of Paris ensure that Bistro Sablé looks as French as it tastes. Witty sketches, pictures and cartoons cover the white washed walls evoking a stylish cheekiness and original artefacts such as polished copper pans and an original ‘Boucherie’ sign are far from gimmicky – just unashamedly Bistro chic.

An affordable and succinct menu is a delicious canter through all the French classics you would expect. Never too French for Sunday lunch, Bistro Sablé will embrace ‘Les Rosbifs’ offering a Sunday menu covering all the classics. Choose from Pork, Lamb, Beef or Chicken with all the trimmings.

An equally trustworthy wine list curated by former Mere sommelier, Alex Corvez offers bold reds, refreshing whites and of course rosé in varying measures. 95% of the wine list will be available in flexi-form, choose from a 75ml, 125ml, carafe or bottle. A coupe de champagne or house cocktail provides a perfect kickstart to any meal and craft beers as well as all the familiar classics are in abundance too.

Mild autumns and hot summers mean the garden located at the front of the Bistro is bound to be a popular spot, almost all year around. Verdant shelter and comfortable tables and chairs complete with shade, or heaters provide a perfect place to stay a while.

The neighbourhood bistro we all want on our doorstep, Bistro Sablé is the perfect setting to enjoy a drink and light bite, have a lazy lunch or a long and indulgent evening. A place to visit whenever you fancy, forget the airs and graces, it offers the simple pleasure of eating, drinking and socialising with ease – Bon Appetit!
