Hilton’s Spark Brand Lands in Luton as UK Tourism Surges

September 9, 2025

With the UK expected to welcome over 43 million international visitors this year and summer holidays bringing a surge in domestic travel, Hilton continues to reimagine the hospitality landscape with the introduction of its premium economy brand Spark by Hilton.

Following the UK debut of Spark by Hilton in London, the Luton hotel became the second UK location to represent the brand. Both openings mark the beginning of an ambitious growth journey for the brand across the EMEA region.

Globally, Spark remains a key focus for Hilton, with more than 40 hotels opened in the second quarter of 2025 alone, bringing its portfolio to more than 170 hotels across six countries, and almost 200 hotels in the pipeline.

Strategically located in the centre of a fast-developing airport town, Spark by Hilton Luton opened during a time when infrastructure improvements and a reinvigorated travel culture are reshaping the regional economy. With the government recently approving London Luton Airport’s plans to expand capacity from 19 million to 32 million passengers by the mid-2040s – unlocking £1.5bn in economic growth – the timing for Spark by Hilton Luton couldn’t be better.

“The town is rapidly evolving. says Ali Mussani, owner of Spark by Hilton Luton. “There’s a new energy here. From a major airport expansion to the new Luton DART rail link and news of global attractions like the Universal theme park in Bedfordshire, it’s clear the future of travel runs through towns like ours. Spark by Hilton fits perfectly into that vision, which is a big reason why we chose the brand for this location. The Hilton commercial engine allows us to tap into a global network of guests and marketing resources, helping drive occupancy and performance from day one.”

Spark by Hilton: A New Chapter for Budget-Conscious Travel

Spark by Hilton launched in 2024 and became the fastest announcement-to-market brand in Hilton’s history – with its first property opening just eight months after launch. It was developed to offer travellers a reliable, comfortable and design-forward stay experience at an accessible price point.

Aimed at the growing demographic of value-driven explorers, Spark delivers a consistent and high-quality experience, making it ideal for both weekend adventurers and business travellers seeking convenient stays in emerging travel hubs. At Spark by Hilton Luton, guests can appreciate thoughtful design and reliable essentials like a bright lobby, signature coffee, and a simple self-serve breakfast, making it the perfect launchpad for exploring emerging destinations like Luton.

Spark by Hilton Luton is a strong example of how quickly and seamlessly an existing hotel can be rebranded.

“It’s a cost-effective conversion brand that doesn’t compromise on the guest experience,” said Mussani. “You’re not just putting a new name on the door – you’re uplifting the entire experience, both for guests and my hotel team. Not only do we have a hotel well positioned to serve the rising demand from both domestic and international guests, but we now have a dedicated and long-serving team who love working for a Hilton brand.”

Hilton’s Growing UK Footprint

Spark by Hilton is part of Hilton’s broader UK strategy to offer brands at every price point and in every type of destination. With travel demand continuing to outpace expectations, and the UK government targeting 50 million visitors annually by 2030, Hilton is investing in forward-looking hospitality solutions.

“Infrastructure is expanding to meet the demands of a wide range of travel needs” said Paul Blackmore, vice president, development, UK and Ireland, Hilton. “Travellers are looking for smart, reliable options that allow them to see more of the world, and this is why we introduced Spark by Hilton to the UK market. It’s not just a response to today’s travel trends; it’s a reflection of what the next decade of value travel will look like”.
