Prestonfield House, one of Edinburgh’s most exclusive luxury hotels, is delighted to announce that Head Housekeeper, Amit Pal, has been named AA Housekeeper of the Year 2025, at the prestigious AA Awards on Monday evening. This accolade shines a spotlight on the often-unsung heroes of hospitality, recognising Amit’s exceptional contribution to maintaining Prestonfield’s immaculate standards and esteemed 5 Red Star status.
Amit joined Prestonfield House in 2010 and was promoted to the position of Head Housekeeper just three years later – a rare achievement in the industry. His calm and capable leadership has helped shape a loyal, highly motivated team, with an outstanding retention record, a true testament to the strength of his leadership and team culture.
Amit has also become an expert in caring for Prestonfield’s timeless heritage, from ancient tapestries and antique furnishings to fine fabrics and artworks. His hands-on approach ensures every room exceeds the hotel’s exacting standards. Personally inspecting rooms and mentoring new staff, he instils a culture of pride, precision, and consistency throughout his department.
As a valued member of Prestonfield’s Climate Council, Amit plays a key role in the hotel’s sustainability initiatives. He has championed the replacement of single-use plastics with eco-friendly alternatives, introduced digital newspapers and magazines, and supported the transition to energy-efficient LED lighting across the property. He has also streamlined operations within his department, implementing a time management system that reduced housekeeping staff costs by 18% year-on-year.
A true hero of hospitality, Amit’s dedication was most evident during the pandemic when he and his wife resided at Prestonfield for seven months to safeguard the property’s historic treasures and uphold its world-class standards. His unwavering commitment, meticulous attention to detail and warm demeanour, make him a thoroughly deserving winner of this esteemed award.
