By Denis Sheehan FIH, Publisher, H&C News: Afternoon Tea at Corinthia London, undiluted calm luxury.
Within the heart of central London, just a stone’s throw from the Thames and the bustle of Trafalgar Square, lies the serene grandeur of Corinthia London, a haven where timeless British tradition meets contemporary luxury. And nowhere is this exquisite fusion more evident than in its celebrated Afternoon Tea experience. Recently awarded “Best Traditional Afternoon Tea” at the Best Afternoon Tea Awards 2025.

From the moment you step into the light-filled atrium of the Crystal Moon Lounge, the setting for Afternoon Tea, you are enveloped in a world of opulent style. Beneath the glittering Baccarat crystal chandelier, one of the largest in the world, guests are seated in plush armchairs and treated to a tranquil ambiance that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
The service is impeccable from the start, attentive yet unobtrusive. Marco De Simone, Deputy Restaurant Director of Crystal Moon Lounge and The Garden, alongside his colleagues usher you through the afternoon with a warmth and professionalism that defines the Corinthia experience. Tea sommeliers guide you through a curated selection of loose-leaf teas, at least 27 different blends ranging from classic Earl Grey and Darjeeling to more adventurous blends like wild rose and silver needle.

While reading the menu, we drank a glass of sparkling tea, Silver Needle, Oolong and Hibiscus which tasted refreshing light and perfect for a warm summer’s afternoon in London.
We selected the Bespoke Corinthia Blend, a medium strength blend of Earl Grey, Darjeeling and Assam with rich malty notes and honey-like sweetness with a hint of spice and also a Ginger Smooth Herbal Infusion.
What follows is a parade of culinary artistry. The tiered stand arrives adorned with delicate finger sandwiches. Smoked salmon with dill crème fraîche, cucumber with mint butter, and coronation chicken, each one a bite-sized masterpiece.
Warm scones, both plain and fruit, are served with clotted cream and house-made strawberry preserve, striking the perfect balance of flaky and soft. Truly delicious, so light and fluffy.

But it is the pastry selection that truly dazzles. Inspired by the seasons and meticulously crafted by the hotel’s award-winning pâtissiers, the desserts are as beautiful as they are delicious. Expect to encounter creations such as a lemon verbena tart, raspberry mousse with pistachio sponge, and an indulgent chocolate praline dome that melts on the tongue.
What sets Afternoon Tea at the Corinthia apart is not just the food, the setting ,the exquisite service, or the pianist playing so beautifully, it’s the sense of undiluted calm luxury. Whether you’re marking a special occasion or simply indulging in a moment of leisure, the experience is nothing short of enchanting.
