Food Hall Secures First Location in Manchester’s Iconic Rylands Building

July 4, 2025

London’s fastest-growing food hall, Market Place, has announced its newest site and first outside of London, opening in 2026. Taking possession of a 14,200 sq ft space in Manchester’s iconic Rylands Building, the former home of Debenhams.

The new lease forms part of Market Place’s ambitious expansion roadmap, with the north expected to be a key driver of growth. As the first location, the Manchester site will undergo a significant renovation as part of the Rylands development.

Designed as a sociable dining space, Market Place’s five existing food halls house a wide variety of small up-and-coming food vendors with flavours around the world, including Argentina, Greece, Mexico and India.

Alongside the food, Market Place locations regularly feature large-scale bars serving a wide range of cocktails and beers, as well as housing pool tables and co-working spaces to cater to all customers.

The food hub is set to become a local destination with regular comedy and live music, pop-ups, quiz nights and bottomless brunches. The venue will be family and dog-friendly, and is set to offer all-day dining and private hire options.

Blake Henderson, Managing Director of Market Place said: “We’ve had our eye on Manchester for a long time. It’s a city that thrives on creativity, culture and community, which is exactly what we’re all about.

“Rylands represents the perfect location for Market Place to open the doors to its first northern food hall. At the heart and hub of the city, it blends tradition and culture with the changing tastes of food, with socialising at the core. We’re excited to start work and welcome our first customers through the door.”

“Our goal has always been to create inclusive, high-energy spaces that celebrate independent food vendors. This opening is just the beginning of our Northern journey, and we couldn’t be more excited to get started in the capital of the North.”
