Patio Pizza, Kingston’s acclaimed independent pizza shop founded by Alim Nayil, is heading to Peckham for a summer residency at The Greyhound. Known for its distinctive mash-up of New York style and Neapolitan pizza, Patio’s signature dough balances crispness with chew, quality with creativity. The menu at The Greyhound will serve a short menu of Patio Pizza’s classics, alongside monthly rotating specials, from deep dish Detroit-style to old off menu favourites. There will also be a selection of sides on offer and punchy homemade dips.
This residency marks Patio’s first move beyond its Kingston roots, where it’s been building a loyal following since opening in 2020. Originally started on his patio during university, Alim began mixing dough by hand in his shared flat and throwing daily pizza parties for friends. He’d picked up a basic understanding of pizza-making from working in his dad’s pizzeria, but quickly realised how much more there was to learn and set out to make a dough that felt unique to his brand. Through obsessive research – studying flour types, hydration percentages and temperature control – he discovered a whole world of pizza far beyond what was on offer in the UK. The trial-and-error process led to a hybrid style of dough that blends a New York-style undercarriage, thin and perfectly crisp, with a classic Neapolitan chew. The dough is made from a mix of three flours and slow-fermented daily to enhance texture and flavour and toppings are carefully balanced and often feature premium ingredients, using pizza as a vessel to showcase quality produce. The result is a distinctive slice that earned Patio a place at number 18 in The Times’ ‘50 Best Pizzas in the UK’.
The pop up menu features six core pizzas, available in 12 or 18-inch sizes. Highlights include the N’duja – topped with spicy n’duja, whipped ricotta and chilli honey, the Funghi featuring sautéed mushrooms, garlic, mozzarella, parmesan, and a sprinkle of oregano and a classic Pepperoni with slices of pepperoni, mozzarella, parmesan, and finished with fresh basil. Monthly rotating specials will keep things fresh, with the first up being The Lupita – a seasonal green-based pizza inspired by a trip to Lisbon, it’s got a pistachio pesto base and is topped with courgette, ricotta, lemon zest, crispy coppa and drizzled with mint oil. For extra indulgence, guests can also add the ‘Full Monty’ modifier to any pizza, consisting of whipped ricotta, a sprinkle of parmesan, chilli honey and fresh basil. Sides include Skin-on fries, Boneless Wings, Garlic Bread, and Mozzarella Sticks, and for dunking those crusts, they have house-made dips on offer – a creamy Garlic Mayo and a Chilli Honey that packs some serious heat.
Alim is excited to be bringing his pizzas to Peckham this summer with his residency at The Greyhound, “The Greyhound is the perfect place for our first pizza pop up, its such a vibrant venue and there is no better combination than a pizza and a pint. I’m really excited to get started, making great pizza for the people of Peckham and becoming part of Peckham’s hospitality scene.”
From the people behind The Cause, The Greyhound is one of Peckham’s most dynamic new venues with a welcoming neighbourhood pub upstairs, a courtyard for sunny afternoons and a basement that plays host to DJs, comedy nights, talks, and late-night dancing. Housed at the back of the pub, the Patio Pizza residency is the next chapter in its evolving food and drink offering, bringing a slice of Kingston’s best to the heart of South London.
