Beacon of accessibility adds Green Key certification to credentials

May 19, 2025

The Marsham Court Hotel, a proudly family-owned and operated establishment overlooking the stunning Bay in Bournemouth, is delighted to announce its achievement of the internationally recognised Green Key certification.

This respected eco-label is awarded to tourism establishments that meet strict criteria for environmental responsibility and sustainable operations.

Achieving Green Key status is a significant milestone in the hotel’s sustainability journey—one that was made possible with the expert guidance of Mike Harrison from Completely Hotels. Mike’s support and industry insight were instrumental in helping the Marsham Court team navigate the rigorous certification process.

James Dixon—Box

“Having worked incredibly hard for the last year to improve our sustainability, our team can finally celebrate our new Green Key status.” said James Dixon-Box, Operations Director at Marsham Court Hotel. “This has been such an empowering project for our whole team, and everyone has worked so hard towards it. We’re especially grateful to Mike Harrison from Completely Hotels, whose knowledge, advice and guidance made a real difference. I am so proud of everything we have done and continue to do. As well as being one of the most accessible hotels in the UK, we can now call ourselves an accredited sustainable business too.”

The hotel has implemented a range of initiatives to meet Green Key’s strict sustainability standards:

Green Transport Options: Guests are encouraged to explore Bournemouth sustainably using Beryl Bikes and More Bus services. EV drivers can take advantage of the hotel’s electric vehicle charging stations.

Replacing Harmful Chemical Cleaning Agents: By sourcing eco-labelled products and harnessing new technology, the hotel has eliminated harmful chemicals in their daily housekeeping routines.

Eco-Friendly Guest Practices: The hotel has phased out single-use plastics, installed energy-efficient lighting, introduced refillable toiletry dispensers, and promotes towel and linen reuse to conserve water and energy.

In addition to its green credentials, the Marsham Court Hotel continues to lead in accessibility. Renovations include a changing places facility, sensory room, and fully accessible bedrooms with ceiling hoists and profiling beds—making it one of the most inclusive hotels in the UK.

James Dixon-Box is a member of the Accessible Hospitality Alliance Advisory Board.
