London named as the world’s Number One destination by Tripadvisor

January 9, 2025

TripadvisorⓇ, the world’s largest travel guidance platform, today announced its first Travellers’ ChoiceⓇ Award for 2025: Best of the Best Destinations. These are the most sought after global destinations, according to Tripadvisor reviewers, and this year London secures the top spot.

Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards: Best of the Best Destinations celebrate excellence across seven categories; Top Destinations, Trending Destinations, Culture Destinations, Food Destinations, Honeymoon Destinations and two new subcategories for 2025; Solo Travel Destinations and 25th  Anniversary Destinations.

London climbed two places this year to be named #1 Top Destination in the World, surpassing Dubai, which held the title since 2022. The UK capital was also named:

#2 Food Destination, highlighting its dynamic dining experiences

#3 Culture Destination, reflecting its world-class arts and heritage

#1 25th Anniversary Destination, based on all user reviews since Tripadvisor’s launch in 2000

This achievement underscores London’s enduring appeal as a destination of choice for global travelers and offers opportunities for businesses across the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors to leverage this recognition.

With our unrivalled mix of cultural attractions, renowned food scene and a sporting calendar that cannot be beaten, I am delighted that Tripadvisor agrees that London is the top destination in the world.”

Kristen Dalton, President, Tripadvisor added: “It’s great to see London recognised as a standout winner for 2025. The city’s unique blend of history, innovation and culture continues to captivate travellers from all over the world. From iconic landmarks and world-class museums to a dynamic culinary scene and vibrant cultural experiences, London sets the standard for what a destination can offer.

“Over the last 25 years Tripadvisor has grown to become the world’s leading travel guidance platform, drawing on insights from real travellers all around the world. Based on the more than 1 billion reviews and opinions on our site today, Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards reflect the global travel community’s favourites – from destinations themselves to everything that makes them special including restaurants, hotels and experiences.”

Laura Citron, Chief Executive, London & Partners said: Laura Citron OBE, CEO of VisitLondon.com, said: “We’re so delighted to be chosen by visitors as the best destination in the world. Visitors love London’s constant change; it keeps them coming back to do the things they love and discover new surprises. In 2025, incredible new attractions like the V&A East Storehouse and the purpose-built Museum of Shakespeare in Shoreditch will open their doors.

“London isn’t a museum city; it’s a living global metropolis. Visitors are part of the city, living and playing alongside Londoners. London’s vibrant local neighbourhoods and communities offer fantastic authentic experiences and food from every corner of the globe. We’re seeing an increase in visitor numbers and looking forward to welcoming more people to experience what London has to offer.”
