Phil Howard is continuing the Elystan Street collaboration series this month, which was a sell-out the past three months (with Thomas Straker, Jackson Boxer and Adam Byatt) – this month he will explore vegan dishes with Alexis Gauthier at a takeover dinner on 23 January. Phil is also hosting Emily English – the nutritionist – on 25 January – followed by a wine-focused evening on 4 February with Tom Gilbey.
The Michelin-starred plant-based food specialist Alexis Gauthier has gained a gastronomic reputation for his inspired and inventive style at Gauthier Soho. Having adopted a plant-based lifestyle several years ago, he has expanded his restaurant portfolio to include sites at the National Film Institute (NFI), and with 123V on the former site of Native at Browns in Mayfair. Phil’s focus on clean flavours chimes beautifully with Alexis’s creative approach to dishes that don’t need to have meat as a centrepiece. Together, the two chefs will be a force to be reckoned with as they cook fresh and healthy dishes. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a guilt-free lift to a grey January.

This is going to be such a fun dinner as Phil is teaming up with wine expert Tom Gilbey. Normally at a wine event, Phil will work with a sommelier to devise dishes that showcase the wines they want to talk about. In this case, Tom has set Phil an interesting task – to come up with a menu that’s difficult to pair with wine, and then challenge Tom to match it. Tom found some Instagram fame (@tomgilbeywine) when he ran the London Marathon in 2024 and stopped to do a blind wine tasting at each one mile marker! His mission to share his knowledge without a hint of wine-snobbery.
