SSP Group has launched a new casual dining concept, Monty’s Diner, at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Monty’s is the company’s first own brand casual dining offer in the UK, providing an American-style diner with a delicious signature menu that includes classic cooked breakfasts, filled breakfast bagels and loaded waffles to start the day. The rest-of-day menu includes signature smashed patty burgers, hotdogs and wings as well as thick shakes and decadent desserts that create an authentic and relaxed dining experience in a buzzing airport atmosphere.

“After extensive consumer research, we identified an opportunity for a casual all-day diner and from here the concept of Monty’s was born, complementing our diverse portfolio of airport bars and restaurants focused on meeting the needs of modern passengers,” said Kari Daniels, CEO of SSP UK & Ireland. “With a high volume of leisure travellers, our partner Liverpool John Lennon Airport was the perfect location to launch Monty’s. We’re now exploring opportunities to open Monty’s at more UK travel hubs and look forward to seeing these come to life soon.”

Monty’s Diner is a significant milestone in the airport’s departure lounge redevelopment, providing a new option for passengers to fuel up before their flight in a spacious environment designed to host families and larger groups. The 190-seat outlet is a key component of the airport’s multi-million-pound improvements which includes a new expanded premium lounge that will be twice the size of the existing facility.

SSP has committed significant investment at the airport across its eight outlets, including an extension and new design to the existing Kissing Gate Pub and Kitchen and upgrades to its airside Starbucks unit. Monty’s joins Sable & Co Bar and Kitchen, SSP’s premium dining concept, and a new look Upper Crust as its most recent additions at the airport.

The Departure Lounge updates are scheduled to be ready for the busy summer 2025 season and will facilitate the airport’s growing passenger numbers.

John Irving, CEO of Liverpool John Lennon Airport, commented: “We’re really excited to see the opening of the new Monty’s Diner, which is the latest in a series of food and beverage developments aimed at giving the growing numbers of passengers now choosing to fly from Liverpool the best possible experience before jetting off from here.

“We continue to look at ways to provide our passengers with a greater choice of high quality places to eat and drink while they wait for their flight, which complements the faster, easier, friendlier service that we have become known for. We started these latest multi-million-pound improvements with our retail partner SSP last year with the opening of the Sable & Co Bar and Kitchen with its views across the airfield, which has since become one of our most popular Departure Lounge facilities.

“Monty’s will add to the retail offer bringing a new twist for passengers, with an American-inspired dining experience and their all-day signature menu serving up breakfast favourites in particular and which we expect to be a great family favourite for many years to come.”
