This evening news breaking from BBC News is reporting that Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations have been cancelled due to extreme weather.

The organisers of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations said that high winds would force the cancellation of all outdoor events taking place today and tomorrow including the Hogmanay concert in Princes Street Gardens by Texas.
Edinburgh’s street party and fireworks display have also been cancelled on public safety grounds following the Met Office issuing yellow weather warnings for wind and rain tomorrow.
Wind speeds yesterday led to the immediate cancellation of the traditional Torchlight Procession, which usually marks the start of many of the Hogmanay celebrations and events.
Organisers of the event, Unique Assembly, which runs the annual celebrations for City of Edinburgh Council, issued a statement saying the decision had been taken in the interest of public safety. The organisers also made it clear that ticket holders would be fully reimbursed and to contact them for instructions on how to claim refunds.
A Unique Assembly spokesperson said: “We have unfortunately been unable to continue with preparations and necessary set-up for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay outdoor events due to extreme weather and forecast conditions.
“Therefore, for safety reasons we, along with our event partners, have taken the difficult decision to cancel all outdoor events.
“We know that this will be hugely disappointing to all hoping to celebrate Hogmanay in Edinburgh and that people travel from around the world to be here at the home of Hogmanay.”

Posting on social media, Texas wrote: “Unfortunately, tomorrow’s gig has been cancelled due to the weather.
