Rural pub develops non-alcoholic drinks flight for tasting menu

The Kirkstyle Inn, Slaggyford has launched a new non-alcoholic drinks flight, curated by manager and certified sommelier Nick Parkinson, paired with their eight-course tasting menu.

This new offering features a sophisticated selection of alcohol-free wines and cocktails, designed to cater to the growing demand for refined non-alcoholic options. Research shows that the non-alcoholic drinks market grew by 17% last year and is expected to increase by 4% annually for the next 5 years.

Parkinson commented on the non-alcoholic drinks flight saying: “For a rural country pub, it is essential for us to curate interesting and delicious pairings that offer equal enjoyment to drivers and non-drinkers, as well as those who are drinking.

“The non-alcoholic pairings have been created using ingredients from the dishes which we have foraged or produced locally, therefore reducing carbon footprint. By mixing our own homemade cordials with non-alcoholic spirits we are able to provide sweet, sour, dry and bitter flavours to complement each of the dishes.”

Over the experience of the eight-course tasting menu, guests can expect drinks such as a Ginger Switzel, an alcohol free warm and spiced libation which harmonises beautifully with the richness of the venison tartare, and the carefully crafted the Beetroot Shrub cocktail, a delicate blend of subtle sweetness and earthy undertones that exquisitely complements the depth of the salt aged beef dish and the sweetness of the jus.

For wine enthusiasts, Nick has thoughtfully curated the non-alcoholic selection to allow guests to savour a delicate Ein Zwei Zero Rosé, expertly paired with smoked eel, or indulge in a Noughty Sparkling Chardonnay, a full bodied, creamy wine with pronounced fruit notes which complement the creamy cheese and crab perfectly in the leftover sourdough crab tart and cheese croustade. The elegant pairings ensure that every palate is pleased.
