The Kitchen Porters Club Kitchen Porter of the Month for October is Jimmy Szabo, Kitchen Porter at The Woodspeen. The Woodspeen is set within a restored 19th century farmhouse near Stockcross, a few miles away from Newbury town centre.
Head Chef at The Woodspeen, Sam Brennan nominated his colleague saying: “Jimmy isn’t just our kitchen porter, he’s the heart of our kitchen! His expertise goes far beyond cleaning, he also helps with general maintenance and even food prep. Here’s how Jimmy keeps everything running smoothly.
“Cleaning Guru: Jimmy ensures our kitchen is spotless, maintaining the highest standards.
“Maintenance Master: Whether it’s fixing a leaking faucet or troubleshooting equipment, Jimmy handles repairs like a pro, saving the day more times than we can count.
“Prep Hero: When the kitchen gets busy, Jimmy jumps in to help with food prep, speeding up service and making sure everything is ready on time.
“Jimmy’s versatility and dedication make him an indispensable part of our team. We’re incredibly grateful for his hard work, and we think it’s time to celebrate him!”
An official Kitchen Porters Club apron is now on its way to Jimmy, to wear with pride as an official member of the Kitchen Porters Club.
The Kitchen Porters Club was established just over a decade ago to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution made by kitchen porters in commercial kitchens across the UK.
In September 2023, the Kitchen Porters Club created their Kitchen Porter of the Month award, which now just over a year on has been awarded to nineteen Kitchen Porters.
The growing popularity of the Kitchen Porters Club highlights the esteem in which kitchen porters are held, evidenced recently through the prestigious award, Kitchen Porter of the Month. Winners include talented Kitchen Porters from Jersey to York, across all sectors of our industry.
Jimmy Szabo will now be added to the Kitchen Porter of the Month Roster, and we hope to be able to soon publish more details of Jimmy and his work, as well as a picture of him wearing his official Kitchen Porters Club member apron.
Paul Anderson, Managing Director of Meiko UK, sponsors of the Kitchen Porters Club speaking of August’s award told us: “I am delighted with what has been achieved in just over a year, nineteen kitchen porters have been SEEN as key members of kitchen brigades, up and down the country, across every sector of our great industry.
“I welcome Jimmy as the latest addition to that group of truly remarkable people.”
If you would like to nominate your kitchen porter, it only takes a minute or two by completing the form at the bottom of this page.
All winners are announced similarly to the above and receive an official Kitchen Porters Club apron.
Showing appreciation in this way not only honours the hard work of kitchen porters but also strengthens the spirit of teamwork and recognition within the industry.
