The Jawbone Tavern on Litherland Road originally opened in 1802 and was named after the whaling fleets based at Bootle Docks reopens today.
During World War II, the pub was run by Jock McNab, a midfielder in the 1922 & 1923 title winning Liverpool teams.
After his success on the pitch, Jock hung up his boots and retired to work in the pub for over 20 years. The pub was popular back then with Liverpool and Everton players, including legendary Everton forward Dixie Dean.
A spokesperson for the new owners, Nicola Halton, said: “We are delighted to be reopening this historic pub this Friday after refurbishment work and look forward to continuing to create a social hub for the community. We will be serving food seven days a week including roast dinners on a Sunday. We are also pleased to say all the current team members have been retained.”
The Jawbone will be open 7 days a week from midday with live entertainment at weekends and live sporting events.
