Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer, the gourmet burger joint known for its classic New York style burgers and trademark CrazyShake® milkshakes, will open their inaugural site in the UK this Autumn in Westfield Stratford City, closely followed by a second flagship site in Soho, London in early 2025.
Having first opened in 2015 with a small 15-cover site in New York’s SoHo neighbourhood, Black Tap now has seven sites across the US and 20 sites globally. Now, owners Chris Barish and Julie Mulligan will open their first site in the buzzing Westfield shopping centre in Stratford City, before opening a larger site in Soho early next year.
The 100 seat restaurant in Westfield will be inspired by the original New York site, boasting the brand’s distinctive striped monochrome floors and walls decked in vibrant street art. The menu will feature Black Tap’s award-winning Craft Burgers, chicken sandwiches served alongside a selection of snacks and sides including Korean BBQ wings. Black Tap’s menu will also feature burger salads, vegan dishes and vegetarian sides.
No Black Tap experience would be complete without sampling one of their renowned CrazyShake® milkshakes that have garnered a cult following, becoming a viral sensation, featuring larger than life toppings from slices of cake to cotton candy clouds and cookies. As ever, craft beers will continue to be part of their DNA featuring limited-edition Black Tap brews alongside a curated list of cocktails mixed and shaken to order. Diners can expect to be greeted by booming beats as a signature playlist featuring hip hop artists from the 80s and 90s – the likes of De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and Run DMC – provides the ultimate soundtrack to each visit.
“Next year will mark 10 years since we began Black Tap, which felt like the perfect time for us to bring everything that we’re known for to the UK. For us, London has always been somewhere we saw Black Tap growing, the underground culture has a lot in common with the NYC vibe from the 80s and 90s so we’re very excited to see this dream become a reality,” say Black Tap Founders Chris Barish and Julie Mulligan.
“We’re delighted to welcome Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer to Westfield Stratford City. As a globally renowned brand with a loyal customer base, their decision to open at our centre is a testament to Westfield Stratford City’s position as a leading destination for international brands entering the UK. Our goal is to create destinations where people can come together and enjoy meaningful time with family and friends, and Black Tap’s dynamic, unique dining experience fits seamlessly with that vision. It’s a fantastic addition to our expanding food and beverage offering,” said Kate Orwin, Leasing Director UK at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.
