Industry bodies line up alongside MPs to support Institute of Hospitality’s Chartered Status

May 13, 2024

By Angela Green: Industry bodies line up alongside MPs to support Institute of Hospitality’s Chartered Status.

The Institute of Hospitality’s application for Chartered Status is already actively supported by MPs representing both the government and the opposition’s sides of the house. That support is mirrored by leading industry bodies including Hospitality Action, Springboard, the Master Innholders, and the Savoy Educational Trust.

Now, the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), has followed suit, in providing a letter of support to His Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council. *The letter can be seen in full at the bottom of this page.

Michael Kill, CEO NTIA

Michael Kill, CEO NTIA supported the application saying: “As CEO of the Night Time Industries Association, we wholeheartedly support the Institute of Hospitality’s application for Chartered Status. Our industry thrives on professionalism, excellence, and a commitment to delivering exceptional experiences. The Institute’s pursuit of Chartered Status reflects these values and signifies a dedication to advancing standards and recognition within the hospitality sector. Chartered Status not only elevates the profession but also fosters a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. By backing this application, we reinforce our belief in the importance of upholding industry standards and promoting the vital role of hospitality in our communities and economy.”

Sacha Lord, Night Time Economy Adviser for Greater Manchester, and Chair of the NTIA

Sacha Lord, Night Time Economy Adviser for Greater Manchester, and Chair of NTIA added his voice in support saying: “As the Night Time Economy Advisor for Greater Manchester, I endorse the Institute of Hospitality’s application wholeheartedly. Supporting this initiative is crucial for both the nation and Manchester. The hospitality sector is a cornerstone of our economy, providing jobs, cultural enrichment, and social cohesion. By backing the Institute of Hospitality, we signal our commitment to nurturing talent, fostering excellence, and ensuring a vibrant future for the industry. This accreditation not only enhances Manchester’s reputation as a world-class destination but also empowers our workforce with invaluable skills and knowledge, driving economic growth and prosperity for all.”

Robert Richardson FIH MI, CEO, Institute of Hospitality

Robert Richardson FIH MI, CEO Institute of Hospitality responded by saying: “Collaboration with other industry bodies is a cornerstone of what we do at the Institute of Hospitality, and I am delighted that Michael, Sacha and the NTIA are so supportive of our aspiration to become a Chartered Professional body for our highly skilled industry. As a Chartered Body, we would have greater opportunities to support, develop and grow our profession, and the night time economy is a huge part of that, therefore their support, and the support of so many other professional bodies and businesses, is vital to our application going forward.

Kellie Rixon FIH MBE, Chair of IoH

Kellie Rixon FIH MBE, Chair of IoH is appreciative telling us: “We are grateful to everyone who has taken the time to support our aspiration to become Chartered, and it is a privilege to see our industry coming together under a common goal, for the betterment of our profession. Thank you to every CEO, trustee, business leader and team member who has supported our application so far, that you have done so has not gone unnoticed.”

The Institute of Hospitality recently re-surveyed their membership as to the value of becoming a Chartered Professional body. A huge 91% of those surveyed were in favour of becoming Chartered, a significant mandate for the Institutes’ leadership.
