The Kitchen Porters Club, Kitchen Porter of the Month Competition was launched back in September, and three winners were announced who were each made Kitchen Porter of the Month for September.
The winners were…
- Lila Parmar, Kitchen Porter, Loughborough College.
- Rita Diogo, Kitchen Porter, Cafejac, Jersey Arts Centre.
- Tracy Giddy, Kitchen Porter, The Snack Stop Callington, Cornwall.
Each was sent their Kitchen Porters Club Apron, and each at the same time became members of the Kitchen Porters Club.
The awards were met with huge enthusiasm by many in our industry including Harry Murray MBE who at the time said: “I applaud the Kitchen Porters Club, Meiko UK, and H&C News for raising the profile of Kitchen Porters’ by opening a window for all in our wonderful industry to further appreciate their vital contribution to it.”
This month we are delighted to announce that our Kitchen Porter of the Month for October is Emily, a young lady who is a trainee at The CRUMBS Project.
Emily was nominated by Ursula Boardman, Head of Centre at The CRUMBS Project whose nomination read: “I am nominating Emily, a young lady with Autism who also suffers from anxiety. Emily came to us with no catering skills at all and limited independence skills.
Emily barely spoke a word, to anyone in her first year with us but always wears a smile. Emily has grown in confidence and her pot wash and organisation skills are superb…no pot is left behind! Emily works quietly but meticulously to get the job done!”
The Kitchen Porters Club is Sponsored by Meiko UK, and Managing Director Paul Anderson is one of the monthly competition judges. Anderson explained his decision making thoughts telling us: I and the other judges were struck by trying to envisage the difficulties Emily must overcome each day in applying herself to her training programme at The CRUMBS Project so diligently.
“As such we agreed Emily warranted to stand alone in October as an outstanding trainee who as Ursula told us – “Her pot wash and organisation skills are superb…no pot is left behind! Emily works quietly but meticulously to get the job done!” – so well done Emily, your Kitchen Porters Club, Kitchen Porter of the Month Apron is on its way to you.”
