The Kitchen Porters Club, Kitchen Porter of the Month Competition launched last month, eleven days ago to be precise, met with a considerable volume of engagement. The reaction was immediate and positive. Chefs, and many others who work alongside kitchen porters were only too happy to take time out to nominate one of their colleagues.
The quality of the entries was even more notable, appreciation of the work that goes on behind the scenes by Kitchen Porters came to the forefront.
Stephen West, Chef Lecturer at Loughborough College nominated his colleague Lila saying: “Our kitchen porter Lila always goes above and beyond in everything she does, especially when working in the kitchen alongside our students.
“She always wears a big smile to greet our learners, and they absolutely love her to bits. Her stock phrase is simply, “don’t worry I’ll do that”.
No job is too big or small for Lila as she happily goes about her daily work. I have never heard her moan or have a bad word to say about anything, or anyone, she is a beacon of positivity. I, all the chefs and lecturers, and especially all the students would be delighted to see Lila awarded as the first Kitchen Porters Club, Kitchen Porter of the Month, she deserves it.”
West’s enthusiasm matched others, and such was the quality of the nominations the Kitchen Ports Club decided to award three winners for September.
Lila Parmar, Loughborough College
