The reaction to the launch of the Kitchen Porters Club, Kitchen Porter of the Month shouldn’t have surprised anyone in our great industry. Nonetheless, the quality of heartfelt appreciation penned, and garnered in only a matter of days saw three winners scoop a September prize of an apron.
The announcement of the winners saw twitter, or X as some now refer to it, explode with engagement, and not just likes and reposts, messages of congratulations and support for the winners, Rita, Lila, and Tracey.
One long term advocate of the Kitchen Porters Club, Harry Murray MBE explained his enthusiasm and support for celebrating the work of Kitchen Porters telling us: “A good kitchen porter should always be highly respected, as they are invaluable members of kitchen brigades.
“I applaud the Kitchen Porters Club, Meiko UK, and H&C News for raising the profile of Kitchen Porters’ by opening a window for all in our wonderful industry to further appreciate their vital contribution to it.
“If your KP goes that extra mile show your heartfelt appreciation and nominate them for this award.”
Stephen West, Chef Lecturer at Loughborough College nominated his colleague Lila Parmar and explained what it meant to Lila, and many of the college students Lila works alongside saying: “When I saw the news that Lila had won Kitchen Porter of the Month, I was ecstatic.
“When I shared the news with Lila, I could see what it meant to her, she didn’t need to say much, she was visibly moved and appreciative.
“I, my fellow lecturers, and the students she works alongside so value the work that she does every day, the Kitchen Porters Club, Meiko UK, and H&C News just let us all show how much.”
