Splendid Hospitality has expanded its portfolio with the new Mercure Dumfries Cargenholm House, which opens today.
Once the historic family home of Scottish Naval Officer and polar explorer Archibald McMurdo, the hotel comprises two distinct properties – an early to mid-19th century domestic house and mid to late 20th century extension.
This addition to the portfolio follows the acquisition of Holiday Inn London Brentford Lock from Brightbay Real Estate Partners in July, and brings the Splendid portfolio to 23 hotels with over 2,500 bedrooms.
Nadeem Boghani, owner of Splendid Hospitality, says: “This is an exciting time for our company. The opening of Mercure Dumfries Cargenholm House signals another great partnership between Accor and Splendid Hospitality, and further cements Splendid’s versatile development plans and growth throughout the UK.”
The hotel is located on the outskirts of Dumfries, just 2.5 miles to the town’s amenities and close to quaint villages, historic castles, and the southwestern coast of Scotland. The enchanting Galloway Forest Park is a 40-minute drive from the hotel and just over the border from England, while England’s most northerly city Carlisle is under an hour away by car.
Philip Lassman, VP Development Accor Northern Europe says: “Once the family home of famous Scottish polar explorer Archibald McMurdo, Mercure Dumfries Cargenholm House is a welcome addition to Mercure’s collection of locally inspired hotels across the United Kingdom. We are delighted to once again partner with Splendid Hospitality on the sixth property in their Accor portfolio, offering guests a unique glimpse into the story and culture behind this historic destination.”
