Need for apprenticeships greater than ever: please discuss…
Ahead of Hospitality Apprenticeships Week 2022 taking place between 3rd and 9th October 2022, we are delighted to announce the 2022 H&C News Apprenticeships in Hospitality Roundtable, in Partnership with Umbrella Training.
Never in the history of our hospitality industry has the need for apprenticeships been greater, and as such every effort to provide more apprenticeship opportunities needs to be utilised.
The latest data on job vacancies in the UK shows 173,000 in hospitality, which is all too apparent in almost every hospitality venue. Service is generally not quite what it used to be.
People looking for work want positions that offer them security, training, and real career development prospects. Apprenticeships offer all three in abundance.
Employers looking for people also want the security of knowing those they do employ are going to stay, and hopefully grow into other positions within the business. Apprenticeship can be designed to facilitate precisely that.
Most hospitality employers already recognise there is a role for apprentices within their HR strategy, and this was highlighted at last year’s H&C News Apprenticeships Roundtable in Partnership with Umbrella Training. One of the delegates, Steve Rockey, HR Director, Homegrown and Limewood Hotels Group, emphasised how career progression is woven into their apprenticeships programme, supporting the group’s entire organisation development plans.
Umbrella Training will once again be facilitating the discussions, and this year they will be around a white paper the company has commissioned to understand young people’s attitudes towards careers in hospitality.
A review of last year’s event, including video interviews with many of the delegates can be seen here.
The event is taking place again this year at The Dorchester, Park Lane, London – Wednesday 16th November.

Once again, a group of circa 12 people will be invited to take part in discussions and share their collective experience in apprenticeships enabling all that attend to leave with more than when they arrived.
