By Denis Sheehan, Publisher, H&C News: Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons secures approval for 31 new buildings.
Raymond Blanc has secured approval for the substantial expansion of Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons from the South Oxfordshire District Council’s planning committee.
In total, there will be 31 new buildings, including 12 associated with a new wellness spa, and seven others including a new bistro and new hotel suites.
The approval however was a narrow one as locals had placed objections about green belt developments and the impact from increased road traffic. The existing site contains listed buildings and structures including the 15th century manor house. The approval was carried with five votes in favour, four against and one abstention.
In a passionate address to the meeting Blanc said the expansion plans would enable Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons to offer ‘unique and world-class experiences’ to customers.
He added: “It is now 38 years that I’ve been the chef patron at Le Manoir. It is important we are an employer and an integral part of the community.
“Le Manoir has long been a pioneer of sustainability within the hospitality industry and that won’t stop. “It is essential that we reinvent Le Manoir and prepare it for tomorrow.
