How to make your kitchen equipment last longer, and why you should

February 23, 2022

Your kitchen equipment is a big investment, and with global supply issues impacting the production of new equipment and parts, you want to look after it. So, how do you make your kitchen equipment last longer? Well, TWO Services, the one-stop-shop for kitchen deep cleaning and maintenance has some useful advice.

“The main things to remember are planned kitchen maintenance, correct set-up of equipment, fast equipment repair and professional deep cleaning services,” says Barry Osborn, Managing Director at TWO Services.

Planned kitchen maintenance

Do you have regular maintenance for your kitchen? At TWO Services, we suggest maintenance plans are done on either a 6 or a 12-month basis.

Imagine having to close the kitchen because a vital piece of equipment has broken down? Regular maintenance visits mean that problems, such as a faulty door seal on the chiller, can be nipped in the bud. Small fixes, picked up in maintenance visits, are likely to be cheaper and less disruptive to your kitchen than full on breakdowns.

What is checked during a regular maintenance visit?

A planned kitchen maintenance programme can cover all of your kitchen equipment, including ovens, dishwashers and chillers, and should include:

  • inspections for wear and tear,
  • necessary machine adjustments,
  • checking gas ranges and carbon monoxide emissions,
  • replacing worn components, and
  • lubricating moving parts.

The important thing is that equipment isn’t just checked to make sure it’s not broken. “Our maintenance visits also look at the way your kitchen equipment is being used and we’ll suggest adjustments to machines, such as ware-washing cycles or chemical levels used,” adds Barry.

Not only can this make your equipment last longer, but it can also make it more efficient, saving you money on your energy bills too.

Effective repairs to avoid breakdowns

Many kitchens are feeling the effects of the global supply shortage. A combi oven that was due in January, for example, is now likely to arrive two months later than that. So, keeping your kitchen equipment running longer and more efficiently is a big win.

Despite supply issues, you should always get equipment repaired as soon as you notice something faulty. It’s likely to be a cheaper repair that way.

“Our engineers’ vans remain well stocked, with parts for most leading makes of equipment. They can normally carry out repairs on the spot, without having to make extra visits. But, if immediate repair or replacement isn’t possible, then we also offer competitive equipment rental options, to bridge the gap,” says Barry.

Deep clean your kitchen

Even if your daily cleaning schedule is rigorous, regular deep cleaning of your kitchen is vital. The teams at TWO Services will deep clean and degrease every inch of your ovens, refrigeration, storage, racking, equipment, counter tops, ceilings, walls and floors.

By using professional deep cleaning services, it will help to protect your appliances from breakdowns, maintain their optimum performance and maximise their life expectancy. Just imagine how the breakdown of your combi oven would impact your kitchen.

Consider also that your kitchen staff and your own cleaners won’t be trained and have the required access equipment for high-level cleaning.
