Boutique five-star hotel, The Hari, is delighted to announce the appointment of Emma-Louise Sargeant as Sustainability Executive. With ambitions to become carbon neutral, The Hari has appointed Emma-Louise to push the hotel forward with its green initiatives.
Emma-Louise joins The Hari with a passion for sustainability and responsible travel. She followed her bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management at the University of Surrey with an MSc in Travel Industry Management at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Here, Emma-Louise tailored the two-year programme to reflect her dedication to environmentally conscious travel, developing a tool to manage the sustainability of cultural heritage sites. This culminated in a 6-week project testing the social responsibility of 18 cultural sites in South East Asia, nine of which were UNESCO world heritage sites. Emma-Louise followed her education with an internship at the Centre for Responsible Travel, a non-profit organisation in Washington DC, before embarking on a position at Intrepid Travel, the world’s largest sustainable travel company.
The Hari is committed to achieving environmental and social sustainability within the hotel and are working towards giving guests an energy conscious stay. The hotel’s ‘Make a Change’ committee looks at broadening environmental awareness within the business, working with colleagues on CSR activities and increasing involvement in the community, championing local employment and fair trade. Purchasing preferences are given to fair trade, eco-certified products and to locally produced goods and services where possible.
Recognising that business practices have an impact on both the community and the environment, The Hari are proud to be a member of the NOW Force for Good Alliance, an affiliation of extraordinary places to stay that help make the hotel’s sustainability efforts more rigorous, accountable and transparent.
Emma-Louise comments: “I am incredibly excited to be joining The Hari London as Sustainability Executive, as we embark on this journey and I believe the hotel should be proud of the responsibility we are taking together to bring the sustainability of our operations to the next level, and give it the attention it deserves.”
