As hospitality and catering continues along the road of post pandemic recovery, attracting new talent remains top of the industry’s priority list. Spearheading this is industry-led Choose Hospitality, a Campaign that highlights the wide array of opportunities available to people within catering and hospitality.
Claire Bosi, Editor, Chef & RestaurantClaire Bosi is founder of the campaign, and editor of Chef and Restaurant magazine. So I asked Bosi to explain what Choose Hospitality is all about…
“Throughout lockdown, I held many Instagram live conversations with the sector. The chat would often come round to the subject of ‘why are young people not choosing hospitality as a career?’. As a sector, we know there have been historical reasons behind this – lower pay, longer hours and pressurised environments – but we also know that this has changed over recent years.
It was a conversation with Niall Keating and Tom Sellers that prompted the creation of Choose Hospitality. Both chefs so passionate about the wide-ranging opportunities for young people, having lived the journey themselves. The initiative builds a bridge between the seemingly unaccessible at times, professional sector, and those who are entering hospitality for the first time.
Choose Hospitality includes a collection of films, to really ignite some intrigue. A 100% free of charge and fully digital Choose Hospitality publication, full of inspiration, knowledge, profiles and careers within the sector is published to coincide with the three academic terms, September, December and Easter, with a Summer edition published in June. This is followed by a www.choosehospitality.co.uk platform full of video content, innovation, regular Q&As with industry leaders and tutorials – all dynamic, engaging and relevant content for anyone seeking a career in the sector.
The outpouring of support from the sector has been fantastic. We have many brilliant ambassadors and supporters from global 3 Michelin star chefs to the NHS chef careers. Hospitality Action, the Institute of Hospitality, UKHospitality, H&C News – so many fabulous organisations appreciating and supporting the narrative of this initiative and what we hope to achieve.
Kathy Dyball, Brand Director, Caterer.comHeadline sponsor of Choose Hospitality is Caterer.com, speaking with Kathy Dyball, Brand Director, Caterer.com, she told us: “Caterer.com are so excited to be headline sponsors of Choose Hospitality, an initiative which speaks volumes about the innovation, community and spirit of the sector and the vibrant range of roles within it.
“There has never been a better time to join the hospitality sector, the sheer range of opportunities available, the atmosphere of growth and creativity is second to none.
“At Caterer.com we work directly with thousands of employers across the UK to help them hire the hospitality people they need, and the range of amazing employers and roles out there is breath-taking.
“Choose Hospitality is all about getting that message out to those who need to hear it, the people that hospitality wants to hire at every level. We’re delighted to have had the chance to partner on this project and can’t wait to see what comes next for Choose Hospitality!”
Bosi concluded the launch announcement saying: “Our long term goal, is for Choose Hospitality to stand proud at career fairs across the UK alongside other professions. To be recognised for the skills and talent held within the sector and to promote the wonderful and rewarding profession to all.”
I am sure everyone reading this will join me in congratulating Claire, and all involved to date in getting Choose Hospitality off the ground, well done!
