Following ISS Healthcare’s transformation of the kitchens at University Hospital Lewisham into a training academy, surplus perfectly usable catering equipment was no longer required. Ramco, the disposal and resale specialists were brought in to develop a sustainable compliant solution.
An extensive range of catering equipment needed to be removed, including combi ovens, deep fat fryers, salamanders, bratt pans, double sink units, and multiple warewashing units.
ISS selected Ramco as its chosen supplier of asset disposal solutions for all the unwanted equipment within the facility. Having worked with Ramco previously, ISS was familiar with Ramco’s processes, and experience in sustainable asset disposal.
Ramco arranged all matters relating to the logistics, removal and collection of the goods. In addition to the challenge of a tight timeframe, and the team also had to ensure all Covid-19 safety measure were in place.
All surplus catering equipment was sold through one of Ramco’s dedicated catering auctions, preventing the equipment from unnecessarily going to landfill, which is all too often the case within the foodservice industry.
Combined with a significant financial return to offset some of the overall project cost, ISS was also able to reduce waste, significantly improve its environmental credentials and ultimately create a more sustainable operation.
Darran Swales, ISS project manager, commented on the project experience saying: “We had previously used Ramco to dispose of surplus cleaning equipment, so I knew their capability. The communication, process and collection all went smoothly, with a better than anticipated financial return. We will certainly use Ramco on other projects.”
Paul Fieldhouse, who leads Ramco Foodservices business development, explained the Ramco approach on the project telling us: “For 25 years Ramco have been helping government departments and businesses make more of equipment that’s no longer needed – from IT equipment and vehicles to combi ovens. It’s better for the environment, reduces disposal costs, and generates funds to reinvest.
“We’re known for our work with the foodservice and hospitality industry, as we understand from experience the importance of delivering sustainable outcomes that work.
