Refrigeration maintenance ensures smooth working 24/7/365

September 15, 2021

Your refrigeration is probably the only piece of kitchen equipment that has to stay on 24/7/365

TWO Services explains why refrigeration maintenance is vital to keep this equipment working properly.

Poor maintenance will cost you

Poorly maintained equipment can result in breakdowns. If your chiller or freezer stops working, you will potentially have to destroy its contents, which could cost hundreds of pounds. A breakdown or the inefficient running of chillers could also increase the risk of breaching health & safety regulations, so maintenance is vital. If people contract food poisoning after eating food from your kitchen, it not only puts their lives at risk, it can cause irreparable reputational damage too.

To keep your chillers in good condition, they should be cleaned out each month and any spills should be dealt with straight away.

Has your kitchen been closed?

COVID restrictions have forced many commercial kitchens to close for lengthy periods. These closures result in refrigeration checks often being overlooked or regular maintenance being missed. If you can’t keep your food at the correct temperature then you may have to close your kitchen.

If you’re reopening your kitchen after a forced closure, make sure you check your refrigeration is working correctly. Has it been cleaned out, can you spot any obvious signs of wear and tear, and is it at the correct temperature?

Importance of regular maintenance

Regular maintenance visits allow for problems, such as a faulty door seal or blocked condenser, to be nipped in the bud. It avoids costly breakdowns and can avoid health & safety breaches.

By implementing a professional, planned equipment maintenance service for your chillers and freezers, you can avoid:

  • reduced efficiency
  • higher energy bills
  • potential hygiene hazards
  • compromised food safety
  • untimely breakdowns
  • costly food waste

How often should maintenance be carried out?

It depends on the kitchen and the intensity of equipment use. But at TWO Services, our maintenance plans are flexible and can be offered on a 6 or a 12-month basis.
