The southern fried chicken brand Mother Clucker has been acquired by Famously Proper, owned and controlled by Calveton UK, the owner of premium burger brand, Byron.
In a deal which both parties are reportedly thrilled about, part of the agreement was to ensure recipe of Mother Clucker’s chicken remains a closely guarded secret.
The brand story began in a converted US Army ambulance in 2013, with co-founders Ross Curnow and Brittney Bean rolling out what they saw as a fun experiment.
The growth of Mother Clucker has seen its fried chicken pop-up at countless festivals, take over restaurants, be a best seller at permanent markets and of course launch its own restaurant in Clerkenwell.
Speaking of the deal co-founder Brittney Bean says: “After eight years frying chicken in food markets, parking lots, pubs, bars, airports, shopping malls and a permanent shop or two, we’re really excited to hand over the reins of Mother Clucker to the team at FPL.”
Co-founder Ross Curnow adds: “The most important thing to us was that the community we created, both of regular fans and internal team, was valued and FPL is committed to doing just that. It’s a perfect partnership in our eyes and we’re excited for the next chapter.”
Simon Wilkinson CEO of Famously Proper speaks of the venture: “We have been looking for a premium, market leading chicken brand since we formed the new company back in August 2020. We admire the work that the Mother Clucker team have done over the years as an innovative and pioneering brand, just like Byron, and will sit perfectly within our company. We can’t wait to get to know the team and continue the journey of bringing Mother Clucker to more locations.”
