Perkee Coffee’s sustainable credentials
Perkee Coffee, a brand with sustainability and the empowerment of women at its core, has launched on Amazon, following a successful initial rollout in workplaces across the UK.
The Soppexcca coffee, which is Fairtrade certified, has already won two stars in 2018 and one star in 2020 in the Great Taste awards for both caffeinated and decaffeinated which are available in form of whole beans or filter.
Perkee Soppexcca roast was developed in 2016 as the result of a collaboration between boutique caterer, Barlett Mitchell and Nicaraguan coffee co-operative, Soppexcca via UK coffee roaster.
Soppexcca’s aim is to empower women farmers who make up nearly 40 percent of its members. The sale of Perkee Coffee generates Fairtrade premium which is then ploughed back into education, diversification and health centres.
The coffee brand won the Support Global Farmers Award for its work with the female-run farmers who grow Perkee coffee beans.
Perkee’s main roast is a single-origin 100 percent Arabica bean. It is roasted in small batches and has notes of caramel and a dark chocolate aftertaste.
Miguel Camara, coffee brand manager, said: “After the excellent response we’ve had serving Perkee Coffee in workplaces across the UK, we are delighted to be able to offer our product to other coffee lovers.
“We actually decided to take this product to general sale as a reaction to demand from customers who insisted we offer them the opportunity to purchase it for use at home.
“It tastes great, and, thanks to our partnership with female farmers at Soppexcca, it places ethics and community at the heart of a cup of coffee.”
