The Clink Charity Hospitality Golf Day 2021, in association with Meiko, taking place in June at The Belfry will welcome a new team this year thanks to Meiko UK’s Kitchen Porters Club.
The new team will be captained by Raul Noja Garcia, a kitchen porter at the Hilton in York who was nominated by his colleague, Saurabh Prabhakar, Executive Chef, Hilton, York and Culinary Learning and Development Chef, Hilton UK & Ireland.
Prabhakar entered Garcia in the competition run by Meiko UK’s Kitchen Porters Club to lead a four ball team out at The Belfry, and have the team buggy for the day driven by Chef and Restaurateur Cyrus Todiwala OBE.
The entries received were all of the highest calibre, emphasising why KP’s across hospitality in the UK are held in such high esteem by their colleagues. Videos of KP’s dancing while they worked were submitted alongside eloquent paragraphs of text showing appreciation and acknowledgement of their role in providing hospitality.
The judging was tough but at the end of the process the decision was unanimous, and KP Raul Noja Garcia won the day.
Saurabh Prabhakar on hearing the news was more than pleased saying: “It is an honour for Raul to be recognised for his efforts and for us to be able to share in his happiness spending the day in the company of Cyrus Todiwala, Meiko UK, and all the hospitality people that take part and contribute to such a special day.
“We at Hilton are proud to have colleagues like Raul who go over and above the call of duty to contribute to guest wellbeing.”
KP Raul Noja Garcia will be playing with a fellow KP, his colleague Saurabh Prabhakar, and the head of maintenance at Hilton, York.
Cyrus Todiwala told us: “Having attended The Clink Charity Hospitality Golf Day, in association with Meiko in previous years, I know Raul and his team will enjoy a great day.
“It was heart warming to go through Raul’s nomination, he is clearly held in very high regard by his colleagues at Hilton.
“Many great hospitality people take part and I look forward to welcoming Raul, Saurabh and their colleagues to The Belfry.
“I hope my buggy driving doesn’t disappoint.”
Meiko UK, Managing Director, Paul Anderson arranged for the competition to take place through
Meiko UK’s Kitchen Porters Club and was delighted with the outcome saying: “I have always been a supporter of the magnificent work done by The Clink Charity and am only too pleased to continue supporting this special event.
“I am also delighted that we now have a KP team taking part led by KP Raul Noja Garcia.
“Many of the competition entries received were inspiring, and underline what we already know, KP’s are the most important people in the kitchen.”
H&C News as organisers of the day also look forward to welcoming Raul Noja Garcia, Saurabh Prabhakar and their colleagues from Hilton.
It is always a day to look forward to, but in 2021 just that little bit more so.
