After enduring more than a year of unfathomable damage to the hospitality industry, the introduction of Covid passports to hospitality would be another barrier to businesses recovery.
The concept is justifiable, but the ongoing track and trace debacle that continues to waste billions of tax payer’s pounds eliminates the possibility of effective implementation.
For Government – The hurdles to overcome are many…
- How would the scheme work, and pass through the houses for approval in time?
- Which department takes responsibility for implementation?
- Which department has capacity to take on such a task?
- How much will it cost?
- Would costs be passed on to businesses? Consumers? Both?
- How will local government liaise with central government on roll out?
- How long would the scheme stay in place?
- At what frequency would documentation need updating/replacement?
- How would the scheme be monitored – What would be the penalty for not following to businesses? Consumers?
- Who would deal with penalties for the scheme not being followed?
For Hospitality – The hurdles to overcome are many also…
- How would the scheme work?
- Would documentation be electronic, paper, both?
- Who would pay for set up of the scheme and processes/equipment to implement?
- Who would pay for staff to implement?
- Would the scheme be overseen and managed by central or local government?
- How would the scheme be measured?
- How would results be communicated, and with whom?
The scale of the task would be immense, and as most people in the UK of all ages visit hospitality providers, as would the complexity.
It seems as if this scheme and how it would be introduced and managed has not been considered fully, and is just a thought being bandied about for some obscure political reason. The PM and government have more than enough to contend with, as do hospitality businesses trying to re-emerge from the worst year in living memory.
Let’s all move on please.
