The Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Kwasi Kwarteng in an interview with The Times today said social distancing in the hospitality sector could remain in place for the rest of the year to avert another lockdown.
Kwarteng said that he believes some social distancing could be here for the duration of the year, quoting unnamed people in hospitality telling him they are quite ready to adapt their premises to social distancing.
He further pointed to expectations of consumers saying: “I think this year, there may well be still some social distancing. There’s also that whole thing of consumer behaviour. People will expect a certain degree of safeguards. We don’t know how people are going to react.”
The government has promised that their review on social distancing will be published in June.
Once again unfortunately we see a government minister talking outside of any official announcement or position being announced. Kwarteng should wait until June when the government’s official review is published.
