Health Secretary Matt Hancock has started 2021 perfectly in line with Government policy 2020, preannouncement of what you are doing before officially announcing it. The strategy must intend to soften the blow, or stage the level of reaction to it. Maybe even gauging public opinion before the button is pressed. But, the strategy here doesn’t matter the outcomes do.
Matt Hancock earlier today on BBC Radio 4 said that the current tier system was not adequate to combat the current threat level form Covid-19. The interview can be watched below through the tweet.

Hancock of course is only saying what almost everyone knows already, but what is now even more important is the lack of any news of further economic support of business, especially hospitality.
After the brief and for many limited respite of a festive break, the cashflow reality for hospitality businesses has deteriorated further through being closed throughout the break and now with no prospect of reopening. With almost all hospitality businesses closed the bills still need to be paid, and January sees them mounting even higher.
The Government in 2020 did much to support hospitality, but without immediate substantial further support, the money invested to date will go to waste. This is a basic simple fact of business and economics that cannot be ignored.
The silence is deafening from Government in making an announcement of further economic support, so let’s all hope another leak or pre announcement is imminent. Please.
