Fika Catering, and social enterprise, The Bloom Coffee Academy have been launched by Ed Walker, formerly an Operations Director with BaxterStorey.
The two companies are set to offer a new service to clients by blending social enterprise and ethics with nutritious food and wellness.
Central to the Fika DNA is the commitment to become the UK’s first B-Corporation food service company, demonstrating that they are not simply profit driven, but care in equal measures for People, the Planet and Profit. Fika is a business with a purpose, a force for good.
Fika Catering – DNA:
Culture: encouraging clients to adopt a Fika culture, an essential part of daily life in Sweden where people make time for one another, sharing a cup of coffee (or tea) and a little something to eat
Fabulous Food: the provision of fresh food and drink that is nutritious, colourful and flavoursome.
Wellbeing: partnership with Hero Wellbeing who champion physical, mental, nutritional, social and financial wellbeing.
Social Enterprise: directly employing people through The Bloom Coffee Academy.
The Bloom Coffee Academy CIC has been set up as a not-for-profit social enterprise, with a very simple purpose: to give those people who have fallen on difficult times a skill and opportunity to get back into paid work. Working in partnership with Modern Standard Coffee and The Salvation Army, Bloom will provide training and an SCA barista qualification to homeless and disadvantaged people, before supporting them back into full time work on the Living Wage as a minimum.
Ed Walker, Fika CateringWalker told us: “I am really proud to be launching these companies. We’re a new breed of caterer, with a very simple vision; to use our profit and growth as a means to a greater end: a positive impact for our employees, community, and the environment. A business that is a fresh force for good”. Going on to say “Fika and Bloom have been created specifically for progressive businesses coming out of the pandemic, where an alternative, flexible food and beverage rebuilding approach is required”

Ed Walker was formerly an Operations Director with BaxterStorey. He had been with the company since 2005 and enjoyed a great career with the market leader, but felt it was time to explore his own vision.
