Margaret Keenan a 90 year old grandmother earlier today became the first person in the world to receive the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccination. The first of millions to be issued across the UK in the months ahead.
It was a momentous day in the battle against Covid-19, and one that hopefully will mark a change in day to day life, and a return towards hospitality as we once knew it.
The pensioner’s vaccination was the first of 800,000 doses of the vaccine that will now be dispensed in the weeks ahead. By the end of the year a further 4 million are scheduled to be administered.
Politicians were out and about witnessing the first vaccinations, with the Prime Minister visiting London’s Guy’s Hospital.
After witnessing one of the early jabs being given the Prime Minister said: “It is really very moving to hear her say she is doing it for Britain, which is exactly right – she is protecting herself, but also helping to protect the entire country.”
Throughout the day all over the UK there was a feeling of relief and celebration that after many dark months and over 60,000 lives lost, hope was rejuvenated.
