As London looks likely to be placed into Government’s Tier 3 Covid-19 restrictions later today, further economic support for hospitality is vital to mirror the upward motion.
The resilience with which the UK hospitality industry has not only largely kept going, but also to date seemingly defied economics is testament to the people within it.
As we approach Christmas, the busiest and best month of the trade year for most hospitality businesses, the tenacity deployed to date by so many will be tested to the limits, again. With most hospitality businesses for all intents and purposes closed, whatever tier they are in, how much longer the economic pain can be endured is shortening.
Additional support over and above what has already been offered will be necessary to avert a catastrophic level of business failures and unemployment, far worse that what 2020 has witnessed to date.
Not only will a lack of further support have an immediate disastrous impact, but it will also severely limit the capability of a bounce back from it for years.
The Government’s economic support to date has been unprecedented, and much appreciated. But more will be needed, and now, for that investment not to go to waste.
