Matt Hancock is later this morning due to announce the tiers that will be applied to regions across England.
For hospitality people the tier they will operate from in the run up to Christmas and immediately beyond it is vital. For many a tier allocation could literally, or for all intents and purposes close their place of work.
Most of England is expected to be placed in the two toughest tiers of Covid restrictions, and remaining in that category until spring.
Leaks of tier allocations ahead of Matt Hancock’s announcement, in keeping with recent Government tactics have already emerged, as we reported yesterday. They are unconfirmed so far, but if they are later, it would not be a surprise.
Tier 2 is what most areas will be placed into if the tone of Matt Hancock’s announcement has been correctly foretold.
Under the new Tier 2 measures hospitality venues will need to have received last orders by 10pm and guests can consume food and drink until 11pm. Alcohol can only be served with a ‘substantial meal, pubs and bars that do not serve food will be unable to open.
These restrictions coupled with trying to operate within safe Covid guidelines will see all too many venues unable to open as they would do so at a loss.
It is getting more and more difficult to see how most hospitality businesses can continue without even more and very substantial support from Government.
