The last few weeks has seen turmoil emerge amongst much of the hospitality industry, and some businesses react to protect balance sheets ahead of people. Some have take time to protect both and not lost sight of people making any business what it is.
Pub and hotel chain Fuller’s has announced that across circa 400 sites it will not seek rent payments from its tenanted pubs.
Whitbread the operators of the Premier Inn hotel chain and restaurant chains that include Beefeater and Brewers Fayre are placing employees on a temporary furlough while its sites remain closed. Whitbread will also be keeping the same employees on full pay, covering the 20% of wages not covered by the government scheme.
When the hospitality industry emerges from the cloud of COVID-19, doubtless people working with Fuller’s and Whitbread will repay their employer’s loyalty in spades. So, whilst there is a cost to both businesses for their support of their team’s, we suspect this investment will prove to pay a high dividend.
Both for us are showing how they value their people, and as such qualify as ‘Hospitality Angels’. Thank you
