Bankside hotel on the south bank of the River Thames, has announced the appointment of Stephen Englefield as their new executive chef of Art Yard Bar & Kitchen.
Englefield will be leading the hotel’s all-day restaurant offering a European-influenced menu using seasonal British produce. He joins from Gridiron at the COMO Metropolitan Hotel where he was head chef.
Originally from Australia, Englefield has lived and worked in London for over 16 years, bringing extensive experience from the likes of The Jugged Hare in Barbican and Bradley’s Restaurant in Swiss Cottage.
He trained originally at Boxhill College of Catering in Melbourne, before climbing the ranks in renowned Australian restaurants, including Circa at The Prince of Wales Hotel in St. Kilda. He specialises in using unusual cuts of familiar meats and is a game expert, having proudly serving the first grouse of the season in the City of London for six years running.
Stephen Englefield said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Art Yard Bar & Kitchen. The restaurant’s concept is a refreshing take on an informal dining experience and I’m looking forward to putting my own twist on it.
With a focus on design, both the hotel and restaurant are unique, and I’ll be applying this to the food so that guests and diners enjoy an all-round memorable experience.”
Art Yard Bar & Kitchen launched alongside the hotel’s opening in October 2018. It has since delivered a focus on fresh, vibrant and healthy dishes as well as a few riffs on classics to add indulgent options. It also serves rejuvenating cocktails, local beers and wines from off-the-beaten-track, including an interesting selection of English Sparkling Wines from Hambledon Vineyard. A private dining room caters for parties of 8 – 24 guests.
