Travelodge, one of the UK’s largest budget hotel chains has opened its sixth hotel in York and has become the city’s largest branded hotel operator.
York Monks Cross Travelodge is the first hotel to be located at Monks Cross Shopping Park. It represents an investment of £7.5million for the landlord and has created 26 new jobs within the community.
The 80-room hotel is the company’s 573rd Travelodge and features an on-site restaurant called the Bar Café and a car-park.
York Monks Cross Travelodge has been styled in the company’s contemporary brand design and features: family, double and accessible rooms.
All rooms feature the company’s signature, luxurious king size bed called the ‘Travelodge Dreamer bed’ which sits within a mood lighting surround with bedside USP ports and spacious shelves for charging devices. In addition family rooms include two individual beds for children.
York Monks Cross Travelodge is being managed by Jules Wan. Jules joined Travelodge 11 years ago as a receptionist and is one of hundreds of Travelodge staff members who has successfully climbed the career ladder into management.
Jules Wan, Hotel Manager at York Monks Cross Travelodge said:
“I am very proud to have built a fantastic team who are as passionate as me about delivering great customer service. Our new hotel has got off to a flying start and we are set for a very busy festive season. Interestingly, locals have been rapidly booking rooms for their visiting family and friends over the festive season, so it looks like we will be York’s spare room provider this Christmas.”
During the last 16 months, Travelodge has been actively investing in York. Earlier this year, the company choose York from hundreds of its UK locations as one of five launch locations for its new ‘budget chic’ hotel format, Travelodge PLUS, at its York Micklegate Travelodge.
Travelodge PLUS is designed around the needs of the budget traveller who wants that little bit more style and choice, and features enhanced ‘budget chic’ Travelodge Plus rooms, with a new premium ‘Tranquillity Zen’ colour scheme with tones of warm taupe, serenity beige and light white.
Others features include the signature luxurious king-size Travelodge Dreamer bed, blackout curtains to create a relaxing environment for a restful night’s sleep, USB ports and new bespoke pixel wall art showcasing the UK’s popular business and leisure locations including London and the Scottish Highlands.
The hotel also offers SuperRooms, the group’s ‘premium economy’ room option, featuring a power shower, in-room Lavazza coffee pod machines, irons and ironing boards, larger desks and USB power points throughout. The hotel offers 142 SuperRooms.
A new look Bar Café with distinctive zones designed to suit the needs of business and leisure travellers. These include counter seating with built in USB and laptop power points for those working outside the room, more intimate booths & dining benches for groups, complemented by a stylish new statement bar.
Also in August 2017, Travelodge opened its largest hotel in the city, York Central Layerthorpe Travelodge. The 127-room hotel with Bar Café is conveniently located in the city centre and represented an investment of over £5 million and created 47 new jobs.
