Fresh from being appointed Culinary Development Director for Mastcraft Hotels, Chef Preet Tandi is unveiling his first order of business with the launch of Soho Wala; a stunning new eatery offering the most sumptuous in Indian street food, accessed through its own listed entrance on the iconic Great Marlborough Street, adjacent to the Courthouse Hotel Soho.
With food that will be designed to transport the palate and excite the senses, the term ‘Wala’ (pronounced ‘Valla’) is commonly used across Indian trading to describe a merchant or seller of the finest fare.
The interiors have been designed to capture the voracious spirit of the Indian market place, bursting with colour and delicious vibrancy.
The 50-cover restaurant will offer guests the flexibility to dine at leisure, with small sharing plates for group celebrations. Plates can also be ready within a matter of minutes for a quick lunch pit-stop, with spice-infused cocktails at the ready.
Dishes from the menu will include Kurkure Bhaji – crispy lotus root and okra; Mirchi Matchstick chicken with fresh green chilli, lime & root ginger and Assam tea brule with vanilla ice cream and malai crème; while the fragrant cocktail list boasts the Rooh Afza Cosmo, the Chai White Russian and the Sharabi Lassi.
Via previous posts at the helms of Nobu London, Dinner by Heston, Monmouth Kitchen , Leicester Square Kitchen and a string of five-star hotels, Chef Tandi’s first solo concept will fuse time-honoured flavours with a cutting-edge menu that brings the boldness of India to one of London’s most revered and historical addresses.
