Buzzworks whet children’s appetite for good food and hospitality

November 26, 2018

One of Scotland’s leading hospitality groups, Buzzworks Holdings, welcomed school children from Glenburn Primary this week, to its Bakehouse in Prestwick.

The special visit was part of Buzzworks #LoveFoodFeelGood campaign, designed to instil a love for good food in the children’s early years by creating a lasting impression of using fresh ingredients and cooking from scratch.

The morning workshop saw 15 children from nearby Glenburn Primary School visit The Bakehouse, Buzzworks in-house bakery, to get an introduction to baking and simple cookery skills.

As well as cooking, the children enjoyed a tour of Elliots working kitchen and listened to short talks from Elliots Head Chef Brian Canny on what it’s like to be a chef, along with Elliots General Manager Holli Kerr on working in hospitality.

The baking workshop saw the children don their chef’s hats and aprons to take on the challenge of creating and decorating cupcakes and crispy cake, with some incredible results.

The children were also able to create their own lunch for the day, with everyone taking part in a ‘build your own homemade burger station’ followed by ice cream sundae creations with countless toppings, much to the delight of everyone.

Holli Kerr, General Manager at Elliots, said: “It has been a fantastic opportunity to get the schoolchildren in today to talk about cooking, baking and hospitality as a career. Our #LoveFoodFeelGood campaign is all about instilling a healthy love of food in our young people and we hope today has been successful in doing so.

“The children threw themselves into creating some amazing cupcakes, all worthy of a place on the Great British Bakeoff, and the ‘build your own homemade burger’ session certainly went down a treat. We have definitely seen some chefs of the future here today.”

Karen Blackwood, Glenburn Primary School Depute Head Teacher, said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Buzzworks Bakehouse. Outings like this are ideal for our children to learn about the various careers in the hospitality industry and ties in nicely with our focus on Developing Young Workforce. I’m sure Buzzworks has certainly changed perceptions of hospitality as a career for many of the young people.”

The Glenburn Primary visit is one of five that will take place throughout the school year as part of Buzzworks #LoveFoodFeelGood campaign.
