New craft beer bar opening creates thirty new hospitality jobs in Cardiff

October 11, 2018

A launch date has now been revealed for a new Cardiff bar that will bring a fresh take on craft beer and pub-grub to the city.

The hotly anticipated Head of Steam will open to the public Tuesday 30 October, and will replace the former Harvester on Church Street.

The bar will create more than 30 job opportunities for the city, including bar staff, chefs and management positions. The venue will host local breweries as part of its varied offering including Pipes Beer, Bluestone Brewery, The Treforrest Brewery & Vog Brewery.

The Head of Steam, which is owned by Hartlepool-based Camerons Brewery, offers customers the chance to eat from its signature menu of ‘pub-grub with a contemporary twist’ or sample a beer from its 45 cask and keg lines.

In a space that’s great for family and friends alike, the venue aims to create a welcoming atmosphere in relaxed surroundings catering for everyone from the expert beer connoisseurs, to those that just want to enjoy a coffee and great food.

Commenting ahead of the launch, Jim Bentley, retail managed house director said:

“We are really excited to bring the Head of Steam to Cardiff, this will be our first venue in Wales, and we feel it is ideally located in this brilliant city, so it should be a real success.

“We have launched a number of venues across the UK this year already and we really love to embrace the locations we move in to by hosting local breweries and taking inspiration from the local history for our décor.

“Our aim is for the venue is to go back to basics, embrace our core brand values of inclusivity – we want this to be a place for everyone – even dogs are welcome! We can’t wait to welcome the people of Cardiff to share a drink with us and enjoy some great food.”

The Head of Steam food menu serves up signature dishes like the ‘Full Head of Steam Burger’ which includes two 4oz Road Crew infused Beef & Chilli burgers topped with chilli jam, guacamole and nachos, and ‘The Besler Board’, a combination of three light bites with their recommended beer pairings.

Jim added:

“Our new venue will be the perfect place to grab a drink and celebrate after the Wales Autumn Internationals, and with live music and great entertainment on offer weekly, it could be the perfect place for a Christmas party!”

Established in 1995, The Head of Steam has 14 pubs across the North of England in cities such as Leeds, Newcastle, Hull, and Liverpool. As well as launching in Nottingham, Leicester and Birmingham earlier this year, it is preparing to open more venues across the country in the coming months.
