North Bar in Leeds has raised over £27,000 for local charity St Gemma’s Hospice through a year of fundraising activities.
Since reaching their 20th anniversary in July 2017, staff from all seven North Bar venues have been involved in fundraising activities with an initial target of £20,000. They have since smashed this target raising over £27,000 with the last donations still coming through.
North Bar’s directors John Gyngell and Christian Townsley joined in the effort alongside the staff. John strapped on his running shoes and undertook the Great North Run, whereas Christian hopped on his bike and raised £3150 by cycling 140 miles from coast to coast. Preston Bar in Oakwood enlisted the help of regular customers to row across Windemere, Harriet who manages Alfred Bar in Meanwood jumped out of a plane, and North Brewing Co brewed a charity Session Pale as a permanent beer for all the bars. The charity beer raised £9,868.63 with 20p from every pint sold going to St Gemma’s Hospice.
North Bar has proudly supported St Gemma’s Hospice for many years. Located just 5 minutes up the road from North Bar’s HQ, St Gemma’s provides expert care, support, advice and information for terminally ill patients and their families, carers and loved ones.
John Gyngell, owner and director of North Bar Ltd says ‘We’re absolutely delighted to have beaten our fundraising target for St Gemma’s Hospice by raising over £27,000. St Gemma’s is a truly incredible facility which does so much for patients and families within our community, and we’re extremely proud to support their efforts.’
North Bar are pleased to announce that they will be partnering with global charity, Action Against Hunger, for 2018/19. This partnership will again be supported by a permanent charity beer on the taps across all 7 bars, with pop up fundraising events throughout the year.
