Teams from across the hospitality industry took to the seas on June 11th and 12th for the third annual Hospitality Sailing Cup in support of The Springboard Charity.
£8,000 was raised by participating teams and the income generated will go directly to funding Springboard’s Employability Programmes which help young people and those with barriers to employment gain the skills and confidence they need to find work within the hospitality industry.
Sailing took place between Port Solent and the Isle of Wight, with boats and skippers generously provided by Sunsail. The team from Alliants was this year’s winner, who raced against teams from Springboard, Hilton Park Lane, Jumeirah, Grayson Restaurants and Hyatt Regency Churchill.
Anne Piece, CEO, The Springboard Charity said “With everything Springboard does, we aim to make a positive difference to people’s lives…. and the Hospitality Sailing Cup is no different. We make a difference to the industry people taking part, by providing an amazingly effective team building and self-discovery activity. We make a difference to people who are less fortunate than ourselves by raising funds to enable us to run more training programmes that help people overcome challenges and nurture them into worthwhile employment. We make a difference by providing a memorable and enjoyable event for everyone involved! We are hugely grateful to Sunsail for organising such a brilliant event and for the teams who got ‘on board’ and raised much needed funds for the charity.”
Michael Shepherd, General Manager, London Hilton on Park Lane said “This year’s Hospitality Sailing Cup was a resounding success. Bringing together hospitality companies and hotel suppliers in a rewarding team building activity. The event organised by Sunsail was truly professional with some exciting and challenging sailing conditions filled with competitive racing. Those who participate in this event always go home exhilarated and are able to thrive even more in their high pressured working environment. It is always a pleasure to support the hospitality charity Springboard; encouraging young people within our industry.”
Nick Daniels, Founder, Alliants said “Alliants was thrilled to support this year’s event. The sailing courses, weather, and overall organisation could not be faulted, but more importantly the funds raised will help so many young and disadvantaged people gain the skills and employment they need through Springboard’s Programmes. We’ll be back next year to defend our trophy!”
