Cyrus and Pervin Todiwala are opening their restaurant garden this June to showcase a new concept dovetailing sophisticated Goan-Portuguese cuisine with wines from small, family-run vineyards in the Douro Valley, Lisboa, Dao, Alentejo and other, to-date lesser known regions of Portugal.
‘Mr Todiwala’s Petiscos’ takes up residence in the patio garden adjacent to Cafe Spice Namaste, the Todiwalas’ flagship Indian restaurant on Prescot Street E1, from Wednesday, 6th June 2018. A partnership between the Todiwalas and Portuguese Vinhos, the leading importer of Portuguese wines into Britain, ‘Mr Todiwala’s Petiscos’ will confine its menu to tasting platters, or petiscos, featuring seasonal British produce and ingredients, including sustainable seafood. Bombay-born Cyrus Todiwala, a regular on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, will inject his experience and on-going connections with Goa to offer a unique take on an enduring Portuguese gastronomic tradition.
The open air restaurant garden will feature seating for up to 35 people and a wet bar from which customers can choose from a wine list especially chosen by Steven and Michelle Redman-Schaffer, founders of Portuguese Vinhos. Among the featured wines, available to order by the bottle or in 75ml, 125ml, 250ml glasses are Quinta Dos Casterlares – Collheita (white and red), from the Douro, and Quinta Dos Capuchos – Memoria Reserva (white), from Lisboa.
Steve and Michelle Redman-SchafferCyrus Todiwala said, ‘Summer is the ideal time to enjoy good food and wine in the open air. Pervin and I have long wanted to make the best use of our exceptional patio garden and now with ‘Mr Todiwala’s Petiscos’, we have the perfect excuse to offer a destination for people in search of an al fresco food experience. Steve and I go back a long way, and his and Michelle’s knowledge of Portuguese wines is second to none. I love their wines, and they go perfectly with the Goan-inspired petiscos we will be serving this summer. Don’t forget that Portugal was the very first country to introduce European wines to Asia and the Americas, and spices as well.’
Steven Redman-Schaffer said, ‘Michelle and I share the same vision as Cyrus and Pervin and it’s terrific that we’re working together on this exciting venture. We all believe that fine food and wine is the prerogative of everyone and should not cost the earth. So it’s great for us to be able to introduce new food and wine pairing concepts like ‘Mr Todiwala’s Petiscos’ which allow people to discover and enjoy world class cuisine and wines in a truly convivial atmosphere of sharing. ‘
To celebrate the opening of ‘Mr Todiwala’s Petiscos’, a 25% discount will be applied to the total food bill from Wednesday, 6th June to Wednesday, 20th June.
