Located atop the iconic Oxford Street department store, Selfridges’ rooftop is reopening for spring in partnership with restaurant group, San Carlo.
Throwing open its doors on April 27, alto by San Carlo will bring a touch of Italian magic to the West End. As guests step out of the dedicated express lift they will find themselves in a secret escape, high above the hustle and bustle of one of London’s most iconic rooftops.
As customers step into the reception of alto, they will be greeted by a stunning floral installation studded with Italian chinotto fruit. Continuing via a beautiful evergreen walkway diners will enter an ultra-stylish and beautifully landscaped space. Here in this Italian roof-top garden, complete with verdant overhead foliage and citrus trees, they can enjoy a day-to-night menu of superb, seasonal Italian dishes – from the finest seafood and pasta, risotto, Josper Grill specialities and seasonal salads to alto’s own incredible, authentic gelato desserts.

Highlights from alto’s menu include:
- alto’s spectacular roasted shellfish sharer for two of the finest king prawns, scallops, mussels, clams and langoustines
- fillet of seabass cooked in black volcanic salt from Mount Etna, Sicilly
- truffle and pecorino ravioli
- pea and scallop risotto
- grilled lobster with garlic butter
- spaghetti lobster
- classics including
spaghetti cacao e pepe – Roman style pasta served with pecorino cheese and black pepper
tagliata of beef – grilled fillet steak marinated in chilli and garlic, topped with rocket and parmesan
caciucco –Tuscan fish stew, topped with bread & baked in the oven
arancini – rice balls filled with beef ragu, served with Sicilian roasted peppers
A decadent dolci menu includes the ultimate gelato experience – alto’s sfogliatella – a shell-shaped pastry made from thin layers of Italian pastry filled with sweet ricotta cheese, candied orange pieces, topped with alto’s own luxury gelato and finished with a special, secret recipe pistachio sauce.
All dishes will be made using only the finest ingredients, whether burrata from Puglia, or beef from Piemonte, produce will be sourced from some of Italy’s most celebrated local producers and suppliers, making this destination rooftop a spectacular Italian hide-away.
Guests can choose to dine in the restaurant, complete with retractable roof, making it the perfect destination whatever the weather, or al fresco on the sun terrace, where a an equally charming bar will offer a selection of expertly mixed cocktails, wines, champagnes, beers and soft drinks.
