Mehreen Ayub, a junior consultant with Admiral Recruitment, who joined the independent recruitment consultancy as an apprentice sixteen months ago, is now helping two new apprentices to develop.
19-year-old Mehreen, winner of the Retail, Hospitality & Tourism Apprentice of the Year award in the Asian Apprenticeship Awards 2017, is mentoring 16-year-old Patrick Bowman and 19-year-old Rima Patel in their roles as apprentice talent resourcers with the City-based recruiters.
Admiral Recruitment specialises in the development and placement of talent within the hospitality, catering and commercial sectors, with over 100,000 candidates on its database.
Both of the apprentices and Mehreen work within the commercial sector, sourcing talent for commercial clients ranging from FM and receptionist roles to administrative and legal positions.
Mehreen Ayub said: “It is an absolute pleasure to be able to support our apprentices because I know what it is like to be in their shoes and can see every challenge from their perspective.
“It wasn’t that long ago since I was on the other side of the table and I know what it feels like to have someone to boost your confidence and listen to any concerns or worries you may have in the role.”
There is a more formal aspect of the mentoring also, with Mehreen sitting down with the apprentices for half an hour each week to discuss any challenges ahead. Patrick and Rima also attend college one day per week.
Like Mehreen, both came to Admiral Recruitment from Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service. Mehreen was involved in the selection and interview process, along with Admiral Recruitment’s talent engagement manager.
“What I love about my involvement is that I am learning from the experience also. Patrick and Rima can see first-hand how I have been developed and made recruitment my career so it’s rewarding on all levels,” said Mehreen.
Founder and CEO of Admiral Recruitment, Paula Rogers, who started her own career in as a temp within a London recruitment company, is committed to developing and mentoring people.
She said: “There is an ethos of nurturing and training at Admiral Recruitment that is ingrained into the business at every level. My job satisfaction comes from seeing people develop and placed in roles where they can grow and shine. Mehreen is a brilliant example of this and it is truly admiral that she is taking the time to help others on their career path.”
