London has always been known for its classic old boozers. At the same time, its slick cocktail bars continue to top the World’s Best each year. A couple of years ago we saw the rise of microbreweries-cum-craft beer bars and in 2017 we have seen venues dedicated to single spirits pop up all over, from gin parlours to whiskey rooms.
Reflecting London’s increasingly discerning tastes is a new trend taking over the city – one that sees proper pints of draught beer sit alongside cocktails, punches, and the highest quality bar snacks, all served in the kind of fun and casual atmosphere usually found in a traditional pub. Following the cleverly curated drinks list of hoptails beers and punches served in the Wigmore, and the real ales and gin cocktails served in Mr Fogg’s Tavern, the hotly anticipated NUALA Bar will be taking the trend further with their new take on an Irish bar.
This December punches and pints will be the focus of NUALA Bar, from Niall Davidson (formerly of Chiltern Firehouse), which is bringing a slice of Ireland to East London’s City Road.
Opening to the public on 7th December, NUALA Bar will be a new take on the original Irish bar in a space designed to let your hair down. As well as promising the best Guinness outside Dublin, NUALA’s punches are intricately made, simply served and designed to share.
Head Bartender and resident Dubliner, Lauren Taylor (formerly of Hawksmoor Spitalfields), runs the show. The ideal place to kick off or seal a night, NUALA Bar promises strong drinks, atmosphere, and revelry paired with a dash of Irish music culture.
Squeeze into snugs for rounds of punch or pull up a bar stool for a proper pint, or perhaps peruse the Irish whiskey list curated by Bar Manager, Spencer Large (Barbecoa). Refuel with items from NUALA Bar’s grocery list, including potted smokie, scampi-fried quail eggs and coffee ham with Irish condiments.
We predict to see more pubs that pack a punch in 2018.
