This November Gul & Sepoy, Harneet and Devina Baweja’s recently opened Commercial Street restaurant, will launch a new lunchtime tasting menu to celebrate the festive season. Filled with dishes to share for the table, the menu will pair the royal flavours of the Raj Palaces with the regional specialities of the South West Coast, to explore the breadth of Indian cooking through Head Chef Nirmal’s modern interpretation of traditional recipes.
The menu, comprised of four courses, will include a choice of either Yam and paneer kofta chaat or Three Bird Awadhi Korma, made with chicken, pheasant and pigeon to start. This will be followed by a Whole tandoori sea bream with pickled black radish, and Burnt Achari cauliflower potato or Royal Guchi Pulao, with the seasons best morels. A wild berry and lavander kheer completes the menu, which is also available with matched wines or whiskeys.
For those looking for a quick lunch, Nirmal has also created two new a la carte specials in the form of Soft shell crab, aubergine and tomato pachadi for the ‘Sepoy’ section, and a Kashmiri lamb rib kabargah with apple and walnut for the ‘Gul’.
‘When nights draw in earlier and days become shorter, there’s nothing more comforting than a good lunch to tide you over into the Winter evenings. We’ve put this menu together because it perfectly tells the story of the Gul and the Sepoy; with dishes from the Raj-days of old alongside more rustic cooking, which is comfort perfected. Of course, like all the best things at this time of year, it’s best shared with friends over a glass of wine or two’ says Founder Harneet.
